Major Crash Leaves 6 Dead – Saturday, February 21, 2009
Six people from San Francisco died in a tragic accident on Highway 101 near Santa Barbara. At around 6:30pm, the SUV they were travelling in rolled over and slammed into several cottonwood trees causing a fire. It is unclear as to why their vehicle crashed. Jeanne Ostrowski, a foreign student from France was driving the SUV and survived the crash but with major injuries. Five of the victims were foreign students studying at the Embassy Center for English Studies in San Francisco.
Fatal Pedestrian Crash Highway 280 – Saturday, February 21, 2009
Fatal pedestrian accident on Highway 280 is currently being investigated. The deceased, now identified as Emmerson Dizon, was walking in the northbound Highway 280 near San Jose when he was struck and killed by oncoming traffic. It is unclear as to why he was there. The crash happened after 2:00am and witnesses called 9-1-1 to report the accident. The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the crash. Janet Nguyen, who was driving the car that struck Dizon was arrested for a misdemeanor DUI.
Reporter Dies from Injuries in Muni Train Crash – Friday February 20, 2009
William Brand, former Oakland Tribune reporter, died as a result of injuries he sustained in a Muni train accident last week. Brand was struck while walking home. It is unclear as to how or why this Muni train accident a happened and there is an ongoing investigation by Muni and the Police.
Muni Bus Crash – Thursday February, 19, 2009
A Muni bus crashed into a light pole and building in the Bayview District. The crash took place after 11:00pm and nobody was seriously injured. Only one passenger was on board the bus when the crash happened. There was significant damage to both the bus and the building it crashed into. It is unclear whether or not the driver or passenger were injured. Muni is currently investigating the accident to determine the cause. The driver has been suspended for the time being.
